Yehuda Ben-Yishay, Ph.D.




Dr. Ben-Yishay Ph.D., was , prior to his recent retirement, a tenure Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine ; Assistant Chief of Behavioral Science and the Founder and Director of the Brain Injury Day Treatment Program of Holistic Neuropsychological Rehabilitation at New York University Langone School of Medicine, Rusk Institute. Together with Dr Diller, he established and co-directed an intensive “Therapeutic Community” type of program in Israel, which was the precursor of the Israeli National Institute of Rehabilitation of brain injured. Dr Diller and Dr. Ben Yishay also established and co-directed for several years the Kurt Goldstein (Post Graduate) Institute in Steinach, Germany and had past appointments at the Tel-Aviv University School of Medicine and at the Psychology Department of the Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Dr. Ben-Yishay is the Founder and Director of NYU Rusk Holistic Day Program which is the current day embodiment of Kurt Goldstein’s Holistic approach to the rehabilitation of brain injured individuals. The NYU Day Program is recognized to be the model (and “Flag Ship”) of the Goldsteinian Holistic Approach.

Dr. Ben-Yishay has been a consultant to a number of programs in the U.S, and abroad; has published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters; has conducted workshops and delivered in excess of 250 presentations all over the world; received many awards for his contributions in the field of Head Injury Rehabilitation; and authored, coauthored and edited a series of NYU, Rusk Institute Rehabilitation Monographs: #59 (1978); #60 (1979); #61 (1980); #62 (1981), #64 (1982); #66 (1983); The Therapeutic Community Approach to Holistic Neuropsychological Rehabilitation (2007); and, Primer of Holistic Neuropsychological Rehabilitation (Ben-Yishay, Diller, by Oxford University ( 2009)).
